Re-Centering The Human

Recentering ourselves in our own decision making.

Your decision environments are being redesigned without you.

We live in hybrid human-tech decision environments. Every time you open an app to find a partner, manage your time, or consume information, you are engaging with choicetech. It’s a collaborative process between your judgment and a set of pre-determined defaults designed to change how and what you decide.

The problem isn't always that these systems have a sinister motive (though sometimes they do); it’s that most people have no idea how the decision-making is actually happening. When you don't understand the architecture of the tools you use, and the decisions you make, it’s hard to tell where your own intentions end and the software’s logic begins.

Our lives are already completely infused with and reliant on choicetech

The question is no longer if these tools are changing what we think, do, and choose, but how. Every day, we make many of our choices, big and small, within choicetech, digital information tools like dating apps, social platforms, navigation tools, and information feeds. And for many people, its unclear how their digital information tools really work (or don’t?) let alone how they’re impacting their choices.

Bridging the gap: our dreams and desires versus choicetech

Nowhere is this misalignment felt more acutely than online dating. These platforms have inserted themselves into the most personal parts of our lives, creating an opaque, frustrating decision environment. Most users are fed up because they aren't just dating; they’re navigating new, problematic, poorly-designed systems that repeatedly deliver an annoying experience and disappointing outcomes.

To bridge this gap, we have to look under the hood of the choicetech we use. I help people see and understand the digital architecture surrounding their choices so they can start benefitting from, and stop fighting, their tech.

Navigating with Intention

To recenter the human in a digital world, we have to look under the hood of the tools and apps we use. This work is primarily focused on choicetech literacy coaching and strategy development.

  • The coaching: We build the capacity to "read" the digital architecture (like algorithms and data defaults) that nudges your behavior.

  • The strategy: We apply a high-level strategic lens to build a personal "decision roadmap" that aligns your habits with your actual goals.

Remake The Rules can help

Services are tailored to each client’s needs and are built on the ROAR Process, a structured, repeatable method for navigating complexity:

  • The ROAR Process: We apply a systematic approach to your specific decision environments (such as online dating):

    • Reflect: Gaining clarity on your actual goals versus the goals the system has for you.

    • Observe: Seeing your data and habits in action and identifying the patterns the apps are nudging you toward.

    • Assess: Identifying the specific gaps between your current experience and your desired outcome.

    • Realign: Transforming these insights into a practical roadmap of new habits, settings, and decision rules.

  • Recentering: Cutting through the designed chaos of feeds and algorithms to recenter your own goals

  • Choicetech Literacy: Building technical literacy of how these systems work, allowing you to navigate them with positive intent rather than reactive frustration.

Based in Colorado, Remake The Rules is equipped to work with client’s regardless of their geographic location through remote collaboration as well as initial or intermittent on-site, in-person work.
